New Year Hopes
By Mildred Speidel
Bob always loved to celebrate New Year's Eve
at our favorite cafe. Right on the waterfront.
We could share the hours before the fireworks
with a lovely meal and champagne. I always
wore my silver sequined dress, that was his
request, his favorite.
For the past five years Bob has been gone. He
left unexpectedly. If I knew why, I would share
it with you. He may have died, but my hopes
never have. I still spend New Year's Eve at the
same cafe, always in a silver outfit. Waiting.
Hoping that if he is out there he will show up
in time for the fireworks.
Now I hear the clock! My nightmare has passed
one more time. One day I will not have this
dream again. Happy New Year Bob, the man
in all of my holiday dreams.

I would hope it was not only Holiday dreams/nightmares about Bob
very appealing.

Poetry that makes us feel is fantastic.
Poetry that touches our core regardless of joy sorrow or the mundane.
