Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags
This Side of Nordkanalallee
By Robert Cory

Espied
just above the rooftops
posed,
calendar perfect,
sliver of a moon
conspicuous as chalk on the blackboard,
cryptic as a rune.
Twilight's hushed
all the fetching flower boxes'
lavenders and blues,
imperially scattered amongst
the regnant Robespierre reds
some four stories shy
all attorned
to the fall of night
where streetlamp glows hosted cults
of winged creatures
emphatically come alive
whirling about as if in a blender
yet, still.
Aloof
as the couple ambling
arm-in-arm, out-of-step,
this side of Nordkanalallee.
Their voices
provender for the din.

Robert Cory's most recent poem to appear here was A Truncated Scrap of History (A memoir) (October 2011).
