Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags, She: Underneath the Glitter

Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags
She: Underneath the Glitter
By Bobbie Troy

underneath the glitter
hid an uncertain self

a sequence of sequins
across her chest
could not hide her fear
as she looked about the room
of people

go to the party, her therapist said
I think you're ready now
don't you?

but the sequins silently shook
that night
unable to hide the reality
of agoraphobia, agoraphobia, agoraphobia

Bobbie Troy's most recent poem to appear here was Dear Diane (Letter 2) (October 2011).
