Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags, November's Maple

Ten. A nice round number. What better way to close the year than with Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags? The theme is finery, in all its glory or all its decay, as each writer envisioned it. At times festive and at other times somber, perhaps the best collection assembled of feelings associated with holidays. In all your hectic bustle, enjoy a moment's peace with each of these gems throughout December.

Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags
November's Maple
By Kim Klugh

Aflame, ablaze
full-blown with crimson and glinting
flecks of gold
she shudders and her stars detach,
escaping, they're set adrift
like lonely sighs

her foliage spiraling
already dying
she spatters the ground below
raised veins, like bold lifelines
blaze their imprint
upon the pavement
as if to say, all this
shed for you.

Kim Klugh's most recent poem to appear here was Go Gently (May 2011).
