Shifted

Harris Tobias' most recent poem here was Vines (September 2011).

Shifted
By Harris Tobias

The old world spins around
It spins around
The summers come and go
Their heat spent, they cool and slow
They cool and slow
And then, it's fall again
With all the frenzy that entails
The dwindling light as daylight fails
Those splashing hours in the pool
Now fled.
With summer's blanket lifted
From our head. Our urgent needs
Have shifted from
Keeping cool
To keeping warm instead
