The Anchors of Our Lives

R Martin Basden's most recent poem to appear here was Ode to Bob Christin (September 2011).

The Anchors of Our Lives
By R Martin Basden

are these simple truths
which persist
though we repeatedly
throw them away
surprisingly find them
over and over
dressed in borrowed clothes
slouched in the shadows
of our indiscretions
smiling
