Farewell

Mark Gooch's most recent poem to appear here was The Secret Food Group, published as part of Contributor Series 8: Feast and Famine in April 2011.

Farewell
By Mark Gooch

Crickets singing, searching
Romancing unseen suitors
Darkness envelopes, light yields to its oppression
Fireflies glowing
Little disco balls dancing on the leaves of the tree
Quietly in flight
Family of bats
Surveys their domain
Searching for tasty morsels of delight
Are they aware of my presence,
Their rescuer when they appear in the house
Or just a shadowy radar image to avoid?
Sunset goddess begins the task
Creating the first chapter of nightfall
Every painting unique
Creation for every living soul
Birds tweet goodnight
Squirrels shed a tear
Farewell Mr Sun
Light disappears.

You touched all my senses with this one and had me standing in the backyard with you, staring up into the fading day. Thanks.
