Night Storm

Joe Massingham was born in the UK but has lived the second half of his life in Australia. Night Storm
By Joe Massingham

Hammering
leaps me from sleep,
thunder grumbles, surly undertone.
Urgent, surging blood subsides,
stills fear or care.
Sleep's quicksand sucks me back
and I sink down to where
no hammers sound.
