The Apostle Reflects

Matthew Ross' most recent poem to appear here was The Plot. Today's poem is very different from that, but tells as engaging a story.

The Apostle Reflects
By Matthew Ross

On that night—
when fervent prayers
met only heaven's silence,
and the shouts of soldiers
scattered us like leaves
before the wind—

On that night,
how was it that you loved me
when I could not watch
with you an hour?
