Taxidermy Poem 1
By SJ Fowler

(Regalecus glesne)

How easily life loses in a day what many years
of toil and pain amassed.
—Petrarch

No one listens to Petrarch
for it is summer
when ears are pricked
& pierced, and lugs are conjoined

rugged with the shared organs
everything between is kidney shaped like the dapple of oar
squeaking peace each time it hits the water.

{this is an Oarfish}
