Let the oil simmer, til it sizzles little pops,
this expectant, odorless sauce in which to
saute juicy slices of red peppers, raw mushrooms
white and thick with black filaments.

Chop onions into slight transparent squares 
and add to the building sizzle. Let stew sit until
ready to pile onto a bed of fluffy brown rice—
add curry spice in perhaps incorrect order.

3. 

Sit, discontent, with a flimsy container of tofu
unsure what to do so as to ensure the rich texture
so frequently found in Asian restaurants.
Make sure next time to buy a good cookbook.
