Leftovers
By Michael Turner

I consumed the leftover squash and onions today
as well as the last of the Christmas turkey.
Seven days into the new year I still consume your love
but cannot savor you.
You join me at dinner, noon and night in so many ways,
but I can no longer feel your soothing tug at my ear.
Tomorrow I shall change the sheets,
and no longer sleep with you.

Michael Turner's poem Call Waiting appeared at vox poetica in January 2011.
