Love on a rainy day

Mildred Speidel's most recent poem here was Death. This rainy day poem is not about death; it's about love.

Love on a rainy day
By Mildred Speidel

It's early morn and I can hear
the rain drops falling free
kissing every rooftop
with damp tranquility.

I glance across my leg
I see that you're still here
so for the time at hand,
I want you to stay near.

"Let's love the day away,"
I whisper in your ear
for rain has come
and I desire to keep
you captive here.

"Let's love the day away,"
like we did not long ago
when time seemed so
irrelevant
and love was fresh
like snow.

We can even play the games
that youth claim as their own
for that has never left us
though time chose to march on.

That cannot be a hindrance
for love can never be
confined to time or circumstance
but just to you and me.

Let's love the day away,
pretend the world's not near,
savor passions
refreshed by rain
that whispers in your ear.
"Let's love the day away."
"Stay."
