Motion

Val B Russell's most recent poem to appear here was Lipstick and Menthol in November. Her first poem to appear here was Tic Toc in June of 2009. Now is an excellent time to revisit that gem too!

Motion
By Val B Russell

I remember the spin
Of tires on asphalt
A spinning impression of a childhood spent in movement
As if the logistics of temporary relocation
Could provide a seat of the pants escape
A migration away from grimness and truth
While your life nipped at our heels like hungry jackals
We kept running in breathless desperation
Their teeth and anger consuming a child's wish
For love that doesn't come with a slap of blame
And life not lived in constant motion
