Some of Us Know How

Some of us know how
to enjoy our lunch.
But many have a big lunch
and bolt it down
until the bolts begin to bulge
and break
and give way
and go flying across the room.

Some of us know how
to sleep deeply and well. 
But many have a nice bed
and try to sleep quickly
and efficiently
and bolt right up
at the crack of dawn
or the sound of a bell
or the bark of a dog
or the crack of a whip
only they can wield.

Some of us know how
to love with all our being.
But many have a true love
and bolt it down
until the bolts begin to bulge
and break 
and give way
and go flying through their hearts.
