Monsters

Robert's most recent poem to appear here was Our Sky. Take a minute to read his poems Green House and Look for Jack Buddha, which were nominated for Best of the Net and Pushcart Prize respectively. Also, you can hear his interview on 15 Minutes of Poetry here.

Monsters
By Robert CJ Graves

Murderous monsters grow inside men,
feeding on the indignities of money and fear.
They worship tools of construction
and prize toys over imagination,
greed over kindness.
They have died a spiritual death,
their souls sacrificed for a material hunger
that only grows when fed and is never full.
With their souls dead, they live
completely in the material world,
and thus they must die completely
when it is time to transcend.
