Annmarie Lockhart, editor of vox poetica, has been reading and writing poetry since she could read and write. A lifelong Bergen County resident, she lives two miles from the hospital
where she was born.
Leila Fortier's poems are visual both on the page and on the tongue. Here she gives us a different poem in structure from her last (Tendril), but the flow of imagery is as artistic as her visual art.
Love Is:
By Leila Fortier
The embodiment of all that is said within silence~Filling emptiness with abundant spaciousness~A divine collective madness~Tireless in the extreme of every waking emotion~Asleep to the logic of the world~Love need not be spoken for it is inwardly heard~Love is a naked wandering~Lost on a chartless territory with pinpointed intention~Love is the abandonment of expectation that clings to life and welcomes death ... Within a single breath~Love is but One moment suspended in a spiraling eternity~Defiant to the confined structures of time and reality~Love is a bone breaking, soul splitting shattering into a seamless synergy~A mindless matterless matter ... Love is blind because it does not need to see ... To justify or truly believe~Love invents the colors on the palette of emotion we perceive~Love is the You that has become the essence of me ...
