Contributor Series 7: The Confessional Diary of Bone
untitled
By BR Belletryst

I heard the heavy thump of prematurely
dying leaves hit the sidewalk outside my house.
The gross injustice of their fall from grace
startled me enough to miss my step.
Like the realization of their demise,
the soft crackle of their crisp selves,
I felt my ankle crunch, convulse in instability;
a twig snap of a bone break—followed
by a crescendo of their rustling cries, filling me
and escaping my dry mouth as
I fell with them.

BR's most recent poem to appear at vox poetica was Conversations of Love in November.
