Contributor Series 7: The Confessional Diary of Bone
Attend to the Bones
By Sharon Poch

I find a deer carcass wedged
between sliding wet rocks
slick with lichen
Bleached sinews bind
cloven hooves, lifeless legs
to ribs, to vertebrae,
to bloated face mask
whose hollow eye sockets
seem surprised by blindness

Riffled water boils over cobbles,
offers up flakes of chalk bone
and bits of hide to Mother River.
In slipping sun, dragonfly sentries
hover, guard the stone sanctuary
from non-believers and
wait for fluvial gods
to sculpt the skeletal frame
with fresh flesh

O, March was the most recent poem by Sharon Poch to appear at vox poetica.
