Under Orion

Sean Butner was born and raised in the desert of eastern Washington State. He currently lives in Green Bay WI with his wife and son. This poem brings us his vision of cycles.

Under Orion
By Sean Butner

First the spring warm,
Then winter thaw,
Finally come the nest fillers
And the weeping ground.

Orion has passed me by,
Turned blind eye in search
Of the dusk-tide prey.
His day recedes.

Now the short shadows
The long hours and the small sounds
Of musty-breathed waking day.
Then the shutter opening,
The spilling thick light
Of the sun's first touching.
