Wilting on the Green

Michael Shammas is a sophomore at Duke University working toward degrees in political science and English. In his free time he enjoys reading, writing, playing guitar, and spending time with friends. Wilting on the Green
By Michael Shammas

Among tall flowers of green fields,
Just beyond that meadow there,
Stands a willow weeping, fair,
For all the years gone by.

The willow watches
Heavy,
Tangled,
Weighed by nature's countless years.

The willow wilts
In that sweet pasture,
Dying;
Still alive.
