Rain Inside

Jennifer Brady is a lover of words and creation living in Wisconsin. She often sees herself in both, but most enjoys the view of who she is through the eyes of her two young children. Rain Inside

whispery, gentle
swirling hypnotic motion
tiny liquid sand
coats as a misty blanket
a gauzy atmosphere
fluid beauty

undetected coming
a low cloud
opens
thick, weighty
it careens in hopes of wet
saturation
then
gone
glistening pavement, lingering
proof

gathering, towering stillness
impending arrival
distant static pop
violence coming
sideways
pelting lack of mercy
ears ringing
angry sobs
pounding fists of wet
rivers leave their homes

warm
rivulets of velvet
hands raise
cup and catch
waterfalls spiral off elbows
bare feet happy to be
dunked in puddles
gutters gurgle
nodding flowers agree
tapping rhythm
on happy leaves

slicing chill
painful
sharp hurt
unwanted, unseasonable
fetal position toes
nails seek their palms
pulse, pulse
stop

lullaby
swish
pitter patter
stroking
exhale
dreams of creation
spirit
hovering over the deep
