Danger

The last poem Bette Hileman gave us, Death Too Early or Too Late, was philosophical with a note of humor to it. This poem will not make you laugh, but it will make love, with all its inherent risks and rewards, come alive a little for you.

Danger
By Bette Hileman

The two of us float on a tide
Neither understands.

It is so new.
Why haven't we experienced this before?
It makes us exuberantly happy and sad.

Our sisters, our children, warn us,
You have not known each other long.

You are right, we answer.
It is not long.
We could be hurt.

Others say,
Enjoy this while you can.
It may not last.
But it may never come again.

Love is always dangerous.
