Summer Rains

You remember William C Ross for the poems you read here inspired by the Dictionary.com word of the day (Love Song in Hi-FiTo Pen Sylvania). Today's poem doesn't come from the same source. It is very fitting that this poem was included as part of a wedding service in which guests were invited to read poetry that had been tacked to apple trees at the outdoor site. William's tree was situated between those of Shakespeare and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. You've been keeping such sketchy company, Bill!

Summer Rains
By William C Ross

Is the grass really greener after this rain,
Or is it because I want it to be?
Is the blue sky bluer over this lane,
Or is it because you walked here with me?

When the summer rains change to winter's snow,
And we tramp the leaves and watch the sky,
And the seasons come faster than they go,
May we still be together and not wonder why?

Or are such questions even fair
When summer rains have washed the air?
