Forgetting

Bette Hileman has displayed an affinity for different themes in her poetry (Dirty SallyAwaiting Snow). Today we're going to read about forgetting him and remembering him. But who are we forgetting and remembering? Father? Husband? Lover? Friend?

Forgetting
By Bette Hileman

You want to write about him
So you will forget about him.

You will not forget the sadness, the craziness.
But the good times, the humorous times,
Will become clearer.

As you grow older and lie in bed thinking
Those moments
Will comfort you.

He will appear in your dreams
And your conscious thoughts
And relieve your loneliness.

You will understand better
Why you loved him.
