I should have said
that your tears
were like antique pearls
gracing porcelain cheeks
I should have said
that I would take those pearl tears
and turn them into happiness
if you gave me a chance
I should have said those things
but it was too late
your train had already left
Very poignant poem. So many of us know the feeling but can not express it as fluently. Great poem.

Regret is such a hard thing to live with. This is a crystalized portrait of such a bitter emotion; a lesson learned too late.
