Contributor Series 4: Aspects of the Elephant
His Muse Commands

"'Write more and kiss me'
are the two requests you
most often ask of me," he said.
I laughed because he was right.
So I wrote him this.
Your words are your mind,
your mouth, your body.
And I am starved
for the sound of you.
You are a force of creation,
and I am the source
of inspiration
mutual need
to speak/to hear
to write/to read.
These bodies,
yours and mine,
beautiful and alive,
lie apart and alone tonight
and for so many nights,
mute and impatient,
desert ranging between
three-day oases.
I ask my Poet,
my Servant,
my Master,
write more and kiss me
for I am starved
for the taste of you.
Desire fed page upon page,
by reading you.
Make your words
a channel of touch,
a wash cut through
uncountable miles
of parched sandy stretches.
Keep kisses skimming
our spaces intimate,
spilling from your lips
and pouring love like rain
down these bodies
on these pages
through these
storm-built
gullies.
For I am starved sick
with need to read
the poetry
of you.
