For Valentine's Day
By Jeanette Cheezum

For Valentine's Day he made me his wife
the next year we gave new life.
He gave me jewelry for each of his little
girls. Little did he know he was my
pearl.

Sun up, sun down, I always knew where
he could be found. Together we made
it through the years, more laughter than
tears.

Our girls enjoyed life until someone
made them their wife. Those men
couldn't compare to their Daddy.

I saved all my valentines, one by one.
Now that he's in heaven I cherish them
all. Take out the box and clean the cover
remembering him and no other.

Jeanette Cheezum's poetry (He Said You Looked Good in Red, Prince of Peace) has appeared at vox poetica in 2009.
