My Passion Is a Beast

Troy Trenton Dangerfield speaks with the voice of youth. He is a junior at Syracuse University, fluent in the language of America's young, knowledgeable about technology, gaming, and sports, but equally at home with philosophy, literature, and music. This is his first published poem. It is honest and alive and it vibrates with the unjaded promise of the future. Instead of expressing a more familiar fear of failure, Dangerfield tells of his fear of being consumed by his own dreams. Such a different concept! Read his words and steal some of his innocence and vitality and see what it adds to your day.

My Passion Is a Beast
By Troy Trenton Dangerfield

I fear passion.
My passion is unique.
More than a force or drive,
my passion is a Beast,
a living, breathing creature
that can't be tamed.
The Beast lives deep inside me,
takes control at will.
I try to feed the Beast,
but this creature has
an appetite
that can't be satisfied.

So when you see me
pave my own path,
defy the norm,
don't be angry.
I am at the mercy of a Beast
whose only goal is
to satisfy himself.
This goal may one day be met.
But I fear that day will never come.
And I hope that day will never come.
