In the Blink of an Eye
Motherhood has inspired great poetry since mothers were invented. All primal symbolism and ancient mystery, motherhood is an organic subject for poetry. Annamaria Valeriano is a mother of two who has been writing and painting her whole life. Her favored themes are family, emotion, and nature. She works for the auto industry in northern New Jersey and creates art at the Jersey shore. This poignant poem is a tangible wrestle between cuddling a baby and raising a child.
In the Blink of an Eye
By Annamaria Valeriano
Beautiful baby with hazel eyes,
In mother's arms he often lies;
Infant to toddler, it happens too fast.
Little boy now, it's not going to last.
Too quickly from boy to man.
Where is her baby? She can't understand.
Pride and sadness all crash into one,
She watches him thinking, "My beautiful son."
Where did the time go? It just seems to fly.
He grew up so quickly, in the blink of an eye.
