In Christina's words, "This poem came to life after an afternoon spent reveling in the wonders of baking a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe with my own mother, her mother, and now, my children. After measuring, pouring, tasting—and eating that first warm cookie out of the oven—a rough version of this poem sprung to mind. It is one of my favorites because I feel it captures the lost story of a girl and her cookie. A universal love story if ever there was one.

Years flash by my little girl fingers,
sheer happiness rolls from the soft edge
tongue and roof of my mouth marry in an ancient, smooth sweep.
Epicurean innocence lives,
breathes,
in the cookie.
