Joy Evaporated Quickly

Veronica Dangerfield is one of those blessed people who lives and breathes poetry. Verse comes to her unbidden. She lives outside San Francisco and she presents her material (comedy, inspiration, education) before live audiences.

There are many among my readers who will understand the sentiments behind this poem instantaneously. For the others, read the words, absorb the metaphor, and step inside someone else's existence.

Joy Evaporated Quickly
By Veronica Dangerfield

Joy evaporated quickly
After the baby.
Labored into many false roles,
Lost,
A body without a soul.
No parking space
In my internal garage.
Everyday desires to extinguish
My external pilot light/
My full-time job/
The dam broke.
I cry—
Cooking
Eating
Sleeping.
I die—
Cooking
Eating
Sleeping.
So now I kill my SELF everyday
Cause that's the only thing that makes me happy.
