At the Farmer’s Market in Englewood

Blue-eyed girl in a lighter blue dress
with no buttons
and a pinned apron to match her stringed cap,
both white,
looks across the shoo-fly pie and snickerdoodles
and smiles
at a brown-eyed girl with lighter brown skin
and freckles
in a layered tee to match her cell phone,
both black.
She smiles back.
