Summer Weather

OMG. The weather is so dismal, still! We want hot, humid summer. We're ready to embrace bad hair days and sweat. We need sunshine and warmth. How will Jersey tomatoes and sweet Jersey corn ever be as delicious without the sun? This is a poetic talisman against perpetual not-summer.

Summer Weather
By Amy Sue Nathan

Rain, rain, go away,
That my basement not flood another day.

Thunder, thunder, quiet down,
Settle all the dogs in town.

Wind, wind, soften your blow,
Trash cans want to stay, not go.

Sun, sun, shine so bright,
Dim the switch only when night.

Heat, heat, we need a break,
Just for electricity’s sake.

Thick, thick air inspires dreams
Of desert days and rippling streams.

Rain, rain, come this way,
The flowers need a drink today.

And if the thunder then must roll,
I’ll shut my mouth
as Mother Nature’s toll.
