The Original Twins
Sentiments expressed in a card can be lovely. But how much lovelier it is when the feeling is shared via poetry, particularly poetry written specifically for someone. The gift of a poem touches people very deeply. This poem was written for two very special girls on the occasion of their 8th-grade graduation. They might not have been surprised by the emotion behind the words, but they were affected by this lyric expression.
The Original Twins
(a graduation gift for Caitlin and Zohna)

When you first met at the tender age of two,
There wasn't a moment in the day that something wasn't new.
From all-day games and cooking at the home of Miss Sandy,
To marathon Barbie, dress-up, and anything you two deemed dandy.
It was love at first sight and never having a fight,
Just occasionally showing who had the most might.
Everyone thought you were sisters from the very start,
Which put a warm spot in both the mom's hearts.
"Are they twins?" all would ask, causing us to say:
"No. One's born in March and the other in May."
When time for school came around, there was never a doubt,
You had to go together or you both were going to shout!
The beginning was great; we were all happy as could be.
We never could foresee what waited for us around the tree.
Your first separation, disaster for sure,
But eventually it turned out and you were together once more.
After much searching, St. Therese School was selected as the landing place.
And then it took some time to get you both on the right pace.
Adolescence, new friends, interests, and more
At times made it challenging to even the score.
But you maneuvered, matured, and managed to make the most
And whenever one was needed, the other one was close.
So as you prepare to go to high school and separate daily once more,
Facing new challenges and obstacles like never before,
Remember there's someone who knows you to your core,
And will never forget you or think you're a bore.
She'll understand your feelings and offer advice,
And you'll know it's sincere without having to think twice.
So move forward with confidence and strength from within
Knowing you're the other half of the original twins.
